Organized hunts and treasure-hunting shows are a great way to pick up tips to make you a more successful hunter, meet fellow hobbyists and even check out that new piece of equipment you have had your eye on.  Listed below are some upcoming events across the United States.  If there is one planned for your area or in a location that you can combine a family vacation to attend, mark your calendar and start making plans . . . you will be glad you did and as many have found, attending hunts can be highly addictive!

Event Description:    The 37th Annual HARC Open Beach Hunt will be Saturday, February 16th, 2019 at East Beach / Apffel Park, in Galveston, Texas. Again, this year the event will be held jointly with the Texas Association of Metal Detecting Clubs (TAMDC). During this fun filled day there will be 5 hunts. In addition to the hunts both HARC and TAMDC will run raffles.

The hunt goes on rain or shine. For the HARC hunts, 100% of the hunt fee goes back into the ground as silver coins or tokens.

The tokens are redeemable for prizes which include metal detectors, gold coins, silver dollars, silver rounds, pin pointers, and detector "swag" donated prizes.

Last year with 78 hunt entries, HARC planted or gave as prizes over 5100 silver coins. 100+ tokens prizes that included 4 gold coins, 9 metal detectors, and 4 Garrett pin pointers.

Prizes for the HARC raffle will be: Minelab Equinox 600, 1/10 oz. gold coin, 5 oz. silver bar, and silver dollars

Event Description:    It is a free event, open to the public, where each participant must bring a $20 or more metal detecting related gift to the event. In return, they will receive someone else's gift in a raffle style fashion. Everyone leaves with a gift. Also unique about the event is, everything seeded is donated by the detecting community. We received over 100 packages last year and were able to plant over 600 silver coins among so many other great coins and relics. We hold a 50/50 to pay for morning refreshments and a free lunch is provided to everyone. Hotdogs, chips and a water.

With nearly 2,000 tables of items for sale, there are new treasures to be discovered each time you walk through the hall. In 2013, we overheard someone who was attending his first ever SOS. Description:    The North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) was formed in 1950 to commemorate the heroism of the men, of both sides, who fought in the American Civil War. The N-SSA promotes the safe and competitive shooting of Civil War firearms and artillery while wearing Civil War uniforms. There are currently over 3,500 members composing over 200 units (teams). An N-SSA unit must represent an actual unit that existed during the Civil War, so you'll see units from all over the Union and Confederacy, competing in a friendly and family oriented atmosphere.
